DONATE: MPLS UPRISING BREAD FUND
Bread for the Uprising
George Floyd was murdered in broad daylight in our city. It wasn’t an isolated incident, but rather the most recent of many egregious instances of the violence of an entrenched culture of white supremacy in our nation.
Now, the Minneapolis Uprising has become the epicenter of Black Lives Matter protests in all 50 states and around the world. The Minneapolis Police are digging in their heels, even as they are under investigation by the Minnesota Department of Human Rights, and as the Minneapolis City Council weighs the possibility of disbanding the department entirely, as local activists have been recommending for decades. The ongoing police occupation of our neighborhoods, on top of the economic and physical stress of COVID-19, has led to a food crisis, where many are unable to access basic groceries in the middle of a de facto food desert. Many grassroots organizations and mutual aid networks are providing essential items to the community, those on the frontline of this struggle for basic human dignity.
We are proud to express our solidarity with these protests by bringing bread to local donation centers. If you would like to contribute to the cause, please consider donating to the Minneapolis Uprising Bread Fund below. $30 will provide for a batch of bread (3 loaves) and the cost of delivery, but anything helps!
